Obituary for Scott R. Chiles

Funeral Director at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services

Scott R. Chiles left this world in the early morning hours of June 15, 2023, surrounded by those he loved. His battle with lung cancer is over and he is at peace.

Scott loved fishing. He is wearing a shabby pair of bib overalls (which his wife, Tammy, always hated) and has cast his fishing line into the water. The biggest fish in the lake is headed straight towards the hook and the battle to land the fish has begun. This is Scott’s heaven.

The simplest pleasures brought Scott the greatest joy: time with friends and family, a good meal, a cold beer from Paddy Mac’s, and old Westerns on the TV.

Scott was born on September 21, 1951, to Jack Bowman (deceased) and Betty (Bowman) Chiles. Donald Chiles became his father through adoption when he and Betty got married in 1959. Scott married Tammy Moore on February 25, 2005. He has one son, Nicholas Chiles (Sue Ross), and two bonus children by his marriage, Krista (Tony) Martinez and Ryan (Oksana) Moore. He took great pleasure in spoiling his grandchildren, Mason Chiles, Miley Chiles, and Dailen Moore. His surviving siblings are Jerry (Sue) Chiles, Jay Chiles, Mike (Cheryl) Chiles, and Donna Sue Chiles.

Scott was a skilled bricklayer and trusted employee of Chiles-Laman Funeral and Cremation Services. He was a member of The First Baptist Church on Cable Road, the American Legion, and the Orioles.

Visitation was held on Sunday, June 18 at Eastside Chapel of Chiles-Laman Funeral and Cremation Services. Funeral services were held at The First Baptist Church on Monday morning, June 19, at 11:00 am with Rev. Andrew Shields officiating with burial at Woodlawn Cemetery following the service. Donations may be made to the First Baptist Church or St. Rita’s Hospice.

Scott never knew a stranger. He was ornery, but his kindness and compassion will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
