Obituary for Jodi Lynn Wellman Sparks

Mother of Julia Wiget, Funeral Director at Roger W. Davis Funeral Home

Jodi Lynn Wellman Sparks, 57, of West Portsmouth, died Monday, June 5, 2023. She was born on August 30, 1965 in Portsmouth, to the late Howard Michael and Diana Litz Wellman. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Henry D. Litz, and Mr. & Mrs. Montiville B. Wellman; a brother-in-law, Tony Sparks; and an infant grandchild, Baby Loesch.

Jodi graduated from Portsmouth West High School and Scioto County Joint Vocational School in 1983. She was a secretary at Scioto County JVS for 30 years until she retired in 2014.  Beyond her regular duties, she frequently, but quietly, provided students with emergency food, clothing, and moral support.

She enjoyed singing, fishing for trout with her family, riding the motorcycle with Eric, listening to the music of Allison Krauss and Prince, going dancing with her girlfriends, and partying “like it’s 1999”!

In addition to her mother, Diana, she is survived by her husband, Eric J. Sparks, whom she married January 1, 2004; her children, Justin (Jose) Wiget, Emily (Matthew) Loesch, Julia Wiget, and Andy Sparks; her sister Jenifer (Chris) Arnett; grandchildren, Eric Loesch, Graham Loesch, and Creed Sparks; brothers-in-law, Wayne (Sammie) Sparks, Rod (Amanda) Sparks, Bob Sparks; a sister-in-law, Rhonda Sparks; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Funeral services will be noon Saturday June 10, 2023 at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth, with the Rev. Gene Hallahan and the Rev. Allison Bauer, officiating. Interment will be in Scioto Burial Park, following the service. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Jodi’s memory to the memorial fund at All Saints’ Episcopal Church, 610 4th Street, Portsmouth, or to the funeral home for the 858s and the projects they support. Condolences may be sent to www.rogerwdavisfuneralhome.com.
