Job Title: Embalmer

Position Summary:
An Embalmer is responsible for the professional preparation, preservation, and presentation of the deceased in accordance with all regulatory, ethical, and professional standards. This individual ensures that each decedent is treated with dignity, respect, and the highest level of care. The Embalmers works collaboratively with each other as part of our care team and with our funeral directors to provide exceptional service to the families we serve, maintaining excellence in both technical skill and compassionate care.
Key Responsibilities:
Preparation & Care of the Deceased
- Perform embalming, restorative art, and cosmetic preparation of human remains in compliance with state law and company standards.
- Dress, casket, and prepare remains for viewing, visitation, and funeral services.
- Perform restorative procedures to return the deceased to a natural and peaceful appearance.
- Handle all remains with dignity, accuracy, and professionalism throughout every step of care.
Compliance & Safety
- Maintain complete and accurate embalming and care center documentation as required by state law and internal policy.
- Adhere to OSHA, state, and federal regulations, including hazardous material handling and universal precautions.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized preparation room and ensure proper sanitation of instruments and equipment.
Collaboration & Communication
- Work closely with funeral directors to confirm case details, timing, and any specific family requests.
- Communicate effectively with care center and operations staff to ensure timely completion of work.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to apprentices or new team members as needed.
Facility & Equipment Maintenance
- Ensure all equipment is properly maintained and in safe working order.
- Maintain appropriate inventory of chemicals, supplies, and protective equipment.
- Promptly report any facility or equipment issues to management.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Education: Graduation from an accredited mortuary science program.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of embalming and restorative art experience preferred (apprenticeship experience may be considered).
- Licensing:
- Must hold a valid Embalmer’s License in the state of employment.
- Must maintain all continuing education requirements as mandated by the state board.
- Technical Skills: Demonstrated knowledge of embalming chemistry, restorative art, infection control, and OSHA standards.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and move up to 150 lbs. with assistance; capable of standing for extended periods.

Salary would be commensurate with level of experience and expertise, health insurance, life insurance, dental insurance, short term and long term disability, paid vacation, opportunity plan bonus, 401k with 5% match after 1 year service. Work schedule Monday-Friday 8:30 am – 4:30 pm; not on call at night; rotating schedule for weekends.
